Built in 1916 the Elks lodge is one of the most striking buildings downtown. It sits next to two major funeral homes and almost looks like a house itself. In 1985 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. By 2014 the building just became to costly to operate and they moved to another building on Broadway. The building is now owned by Newbold Properties. In the summer of 2011 a group of us went through and photographed the building and here are the results. At one point there was a partial renovation to turn this place into a halfway house of some sort but that never materialized. It is a beautiful building with a small hall and stage on the main floor. A bigger meeting room sits on the third floor and used to have a stained glass skylight. Only two stained glass skylights were in town the other being the Christian church on College Street. The skylight has been removed unfortunately and been sold. I am sure a lot of you have some good memories of this place. Mine are the Christmas in the city shows that used to take place here for the Fawcett Foundation.
