Moving on up

View from near the top of round knob

A very little known fact about our little county is that we have the fourth highest point in the state. It is called round knob located pretty close to west point and the county airport.
The elevation of Round knob is 1447 feet above sea level. The highest point in the state of Ohio is Campbell hill that peaks out at 1550 feet. Campbell hill is near the city of Findlay in the western part of the state. The county's highest point is marked by a marble pillar installed and surveyed by the national geological survey. At the top one can see almost to Pittsburgh and well past the Stratton power plant in Empire. Round knob can be seen from the hills of western Pennsylvania. The Round knob marker now sits on private property near the power line easement.

Above the marble pillar and the info plate on top of the pillar.
below is another marker set in concrete in 1949 near the marble pillar. It was covered over with dirt.

This is the view from Fredricktown Midland road in western Pennsylvania. Round knob can be seen two hills left of the electrical tower.
