Beyond Gretchens Lock

Everyone is familiar with the Gretchens lock area. The spooky old house, the bridge , and the spectacular lookout on top of the hill. There is more to be seen along the banks of the creek further downstream of the old house. On the other side of the creek across the bridge is another trail or part of a trail.

The Fishermans trail runs directly behind the old house along the banks of the creek and runs to the end of the park boundary. The trail on the other side runs up and over the cliffs on that side of the creek. This is a very technical trail with a lot of very hard climbs and dangerous drop offs. Although this trail is in the boundaries of the state park it is not listed on park maps. The Calcutta fire department recently held some rescue training along that side of the creek.

After the climb up and back down to the bottom you can find the remains of some old buildings and another part of a lock. The easy and safe way is to canoe down the creek and is recommended.

I like the look of this place in black and white

Looking back at the start of the trail
Some of the cliffs above the trail
Some neat old things laying in the area

The basement of an old house or building

The original stone park boundry pin

More stone foundations

The remains of another lock.

More things found near building
