Welcome to the machine

These are two massive dry pan crushers used to prepare clay before making brick. These machines were invented in 1906 and used in many of the older factories.

One of my favorite things to photograph is abandoned factories. They have such a rich history and beauty to them. Walking around in them is like stepping back in time. There is kind of a sadness to them as the noises of a once bustling plant are replaced by the haunting sounds of pigeons and loose metal flapping in the wind. You wonder when you see them how many lives have gone through this place and how many families have relied on these open doors for an income. These days manufacturing has gone by the wayside and the service industry has moved ahead. Here is a look at some near by plants that have long been closed. Each place stands out as it's own destiny has drawn to an end. The only thing remaining are the memories of the few people left that can tell the story of the factory that once thrived and provided a living for the locals that labored there. The above and the following photos are from an abandoned brick yard near Negley. It has been closed down since the mid eighties.
